Last year project

Verti-Go :

The objective of the project is to make a VTOL (vertical take-off and landing) based aeromodel . It is capable of taking-off and landing vertically , without the need of a runway. It takes off just like a helicopter and has all the advantages that an aeroplane has over a helicopter like speed, mileage, capacity to travel long distances etc.

We are using the concept of tilt-rotors. Two rotors are used in this model. They are placed at the wing-tips. The rotors will be aligned vertically while take-off. So, they provide the required lift. After take –off , we turn the rotors through an angle of 90 degrees. Now, they act like propellers giving the required thrust in the forward direction. Now, it is similar to an aeroplane.
During cruise, it will be controlled through the normal control surfaces ( ailerons, elevator and rudder ) and the wings provide the lift (similar to an aeroplane). Again while landing, the rotors are made vertical, thereby enabling it to land vertically.

Various Applications :
1. It can be used in future aeroplanes.
2. This concept can also be used in ‘flying cars’.
3. This does not need a runway. This helps aeroplanes to access remote areas. So, various search and rescue operations can get very effective.
4. This concept can be used at places where building a runway is very difficult (like hill stations). So, they can be used at such places for transport.
5. This will be very helpful during wars as we can supply resources to the army directly, even if there is no aerodrome nearby.
6. These planes can land directly on ships that do not have facility for aeroplanes. (provided the ship has enough space)
