Spirit

This project aims to fulfill static touch-screen applications such as ATM’s and railway reservation in a very cost effective way.
Matrix arrangement of lasers and light dependent resistors(LDR) is used over monitor screen. When finger is placed over screen, the change in resistance is sensed by the LDR. The LDR’s resistance is given as an input to comparator circuit, which generates appropriate voltage to be given to the microcontroller. Microcontroller is interfaced with the computer with serial/parallel port with appropriate cable.
We have prepared a simple GUI environment with C++ programming. There are at most 8 icons on screen, so we have assigned them a predefined value in form of array, each consisting of 8 unique digits in form of 0’s and 1’s. We used instructions inport and outport at appropriate place to fetch stream of 8-bits from the controller. This is then compared with the value in the array. Accordingly the icon selected by user gets explored.

Application of the project ranges from static touch screen such as ATM’s, Reservation systems, inquiry systems etc where a common person can access information merely by a touch!
We aim to provide a cost-efficient touch screen application on every existing CRT system. Here as students, we have implemented the concept at about RS 700/-(Touch Screen overlays available today in market costs about 12000 Rs.)
We can also make it dynamic by implementing the concept on any type of panel like LCD’s just by modifying some aspects of alignment of LDR’s and Lasers.

This is an extremely good application. As you havw said it is very cost effective so any small firm can use your application and spread its use. An ordinary person can use it.

Congrets.....
Always shine like a star.
Keep it up
